Owner & Studio Teacher
in 2005, i realized my life-long dream of opening an art school for all children, including children with special needs. i have totally loved being able to spend the last 13 years growing artmix with an incredible team of art teachers, students, along with my very supportive family (including my middle son sean, seen in this picture that i got to take with him at his high school graduation last may!).
my husband and i moved to his hometown of houston in 1993, where we have lived and raised our three wonderful sons. with regards to my background, i was born in new york city, and was raised in san francisco. in 1989, i received my undergraduate degree in government and international relations from georgetown university, in washington, d.c.. i earned a master of arts education in 1996, and a master of special education in 1998, from the university of houston. i have worked in the field of art education, specifically teaching children with special needs, since 1994. in 2014, i completed the goldman sachs 10,000 small business program, here in houston.
before opening artmix, i was very grateful to volunteer for seven years with the pediatric patients at m.d. anderson cancer center through the children’s art project. since then, it has been a total joy for our artmix team to get to partner with a variety of organizations that support creativity for houston’s children, including, the houston chapter of the sunshine kids, a variety of programs serving children with autism, the bayou bend foundation, as well as schools and parks throughout the houston area.
my team and i hope to welcome you to artmix very soon!
